The Bird’s Nest was designed to allow for the maximum amount of natural lighiting as possible. In the above pictures, one can see the amount of light that passes through the stadium, both through the walls and the roof. Originally the roof was designed to be retractable, but that idea was scrapped, and saved the cost of construction almost $200 million dollars.
Above is the estimated single line diagram. The Stadium uses geothermal energy to chill and heat the water that runs through the HVAC system, and the piping to do that is located beneath the main athletic field.
